For the second straight year, Wisner-Pilger stakes a Gator flag atop the East Husker Conference heap. Wi-Pi topped the EHC in boys basketball and track and field to help it gain a three-point edge over North Bend in the combined race.
The all-sports standings were compiled by the North Bend Eagle after awarding points based on how each school finished in the six girls sports and six boys sports.

The Gators were helped by strong showings from their girls in volleyball and basketball. Middle-of-the pack finishes in most everything else was enough to put the green and white on top. Wisner-Pilger also won the boys sports title.
On the girls side, West Point-Beemer dominated in volleyball and cross country and finished near the top of the EHC in basketball and track to finish on top. A different school has won the girls title each year the Eagle has figured standings.

Befitting a year when North Bend was EHC runner-up in football, boys basketball, girls basketball and wrestling, the Tigers ended up second in all three categories.

How it was scored
Points were awarded in each sport based on regular season standings and the number of teams that participated in the sport. So if all 10 teams competed in a sport, the conference champion received 10 points, second place nine points, third place got eight, and so on. If there were only seven teams in a sport, the winner got seven points, the runner-up six, and so on.

Basketball, volleyball: Regular season East Husker Conference standings were used.

Wrestling, cross country, golf, track and field: Points were awarded based on the school’s finish at the conference meet. In cross country and golf, only full teams counted in the team standings.

Football: With the advent of district play and statewide scheduling several years ago, conference play in football went out the window. Points were awarded based upon the Eagle’s final East Husker Conference ratings. These ratings were compiled after considering each team’s record, head-to-head match ups against other EHC teams, common opponents, and strength of schedule.
Stanton was named the mythical conference champion after going 10-1 and advancing to the Class C-2 state quarterfinals.

Softball: With only four conference teams competing in softball, the East Husker does not officially recognize the sport or hold a conference championship. However, the four teams, North Bend, Tekamah-Herman, Logan View-Scribner-Snyder and Wisner-Pilger, all play each other, so the Eagle was able to compile regular season standings based on those games. Only single, regular season games were counted. As in other sports, tournament games or other multi-team formats were not included in the standings.

The unofficial 2008 conference softball standings looked like this: 1. Tekamah-Herman (3-0), 2. Logan View-Scribner-Snyder (2-1), 3. Wisner-Pilger (1-2), North Bend (0-3). Logan View and Scribner-Snyder, who co-op in softball, were awarded the same number of points.

Tournaments: Top-four finishes in the conference tournaments were also recognized. Teams were awarded four points for winning a conference tournament, three points for runner-up, two points for third and one point for fourth place. These bonus points were awarded for the conference volleyball and basketball tournaments and the conference wrestling dual tournament.
