Wisner Beef vs. Dodge GamecocksFeb. 17, 2019, at Dodge • Playoff Championship Game
Summary: Dodge dines on Beef for first Farmland championship The Dodge town team was one of the charter members of the Farmland Basketball League when it formed in 2008. The Gamecocks got off to a rough start – they didn't win a game until the third season.
Sunday night, Dodge completed the climb to the mountain top, winning their first Golden Tractor Trophy with a decisive 101-87 win over the Wisner Beef.
Blistering shooting by Tommy Ruzek got Dodge off to a fast start, as he hit three 3-pointers right out of the gate while the Gamecocks raced to a 19-4 lead. Ruzek hit five 3's in the first half and ended the game with 19 points.
Meanwhile, Wisner could not find its shooting touch as Dodge built a 58-34 lead at halftime. The Gamecocks extended that lead to as many as 27 points in the second half, but Wisner made a late push to get back into as Trevor Cyboron attacked the basket and Bryan Mendlik starting hitting from the outside. Mendlik scored 17 of his 20 points in the second half, including five 3-pointers. Cyboron led Wisner with 28 points.
The late surge wasn't enough for the Beef as they were unable to get the deficit into single digits. Russ Meyer, founder of the Dodge team, put the final nail in the basket with a 3-pointer that bounced high off the rim before settling into the net, making Dodge the first Farmland team to break the century mark in a championship game.
Dodge also completed just the second undefeated season in the 11-year history of the Farmland League, winning the title in its second championship game after taking the FBL runner-up in 2018.
Casey Wisnieski was aggressive all night going to the basket and led Dodge with 24 points. Bryan Ruzek added 14 points for the victorious Gamecocks.
