Howells vs. Oakland HeightsFeb. 21, 2016, at Oakland • Championship game
Summary: Oakland looked like it was going to run away with its fourth Farmland title early on. While the trio of Zach Rosenboom, Merritt Nelson and Mike Selk were piling up points for Oakland, Howells couldn't buy a basket and got stuck on 11 points for several minutes, eventually trailing 29-11. However, Howells made a run right before half time with Justin Sindelar knocking down a pair of 3-pointers to close the gap to 36-28 at the break. Howells kept it going to start the second half, opening with a 10-2 run to tie the game at 38 on a shot by Sam Schlautman in the lane. Oakland responded with five straight points, including a 3-pointer by David Deemer on a nice kickout by Gus Ray. Howells came right back to tie it at 43 again. Oakland kept plugging away with strong inside play, but Howells kept pace. A drive and layup by Brady Brester pulled Howells to within 60-57 with 1:27 remaining. That was as close as Howells got, though, as Oakland made 7-of-10 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. The win gives the Oakland Heights a 3-0 record in championship games against Howells. Following the game, the 2016 All-Farmland team was introduced and the MVP named.
