These are the people that produce the Eagle on a weekly basis:
Nathan Arneal, owner, publisher, editor
Before the Eagle: Nathan is a 1994 graduate of North Bend Central and a 1999 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a major in secondary education. Before taking over the Eagle in June 2006, he taught English and journalism at Columbus Scotus high school. While at Scotus, he was the adviser for the school's student newspaper, The Rock Bottom. During the four years he oversaw the Rock Bottom, it won two Cornhusker Awards (the Nebraska High School Press Association's top award), finished in the top five at the NSAA state journalism contest every year, and won a state runner-up trophy in 2003. He also coached football, girls basketball and track at Scotus.
At the Eagle: Nathan is the main sports writer and photographer for the Eagle. He covers the North Bend city council and writes various other news and feature stories for the paper. He also writes a column titled "From the Banks of Maple Creek," named after the creek that flows by his childhood home near Webster. He is also the webmaster for northbendeagle.com
During his spare time Nathan does not enjoy tracking the migratory paths of various waterfowl and making paper mache models of the Sphinx out of junk mail. When he grows up he wants to be an astronaut.
Mary Le Arneal, reporter, office manager
Mary Le graduated from Florida State University with a nursing degree. She began her journalism career by volunteering to write feature stories for the North Bend Eagle. Eventually she became a regular feature writer for the Fremont Tribune. When her son Nathan bought the North Bend Eagle in 2006, she began writing for the Eagle and manning the front office.
At the Eagle, Mary Le helps with the People Page and handles much of the advertising. She also writes various news and feature stories and covers the North Bend Central school board. She also writes an occasional column called "Musings from Mary Le."
In her spare time, she enjoys looking at pictures of her grand kids and showing other people pictures of her grand kids.
Molly Nicola, front office, reporter
Molly has been working at the Eagle since July 2015, and normally greets patrons on the phone and front desk Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. She is a graduate of Bergan High School and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. At the Eagle she handles the billing and subscriptions and assists Mary Le with the People Page and advertizing.
She also runs her own business as an event coordinator, Molly May Events, where she plans weddings, parties and other shindigs. She and her husband Bernie Nicola, a science teacheer at NBC, have a son named James.
Corrine Giggee, columnist
Nathan's sister Corrine writes a monthly medical column entitled "Medical Maintenance," which runs the first week of the month. After graduating from North Bend Central in 1997, she earned her bachelor's degree from Drake University. She later attended PA school at the University of Iowa. She is currently a certified Physicians' Assistant at the Nebraska Spine Center in Omaha. She lives in Omaha with her husband John and daughters Clara and Julianne.
Steve Arneal, bookkeeper
Steve keeps the books for the Eagle and helps proofread during the winter months. He also writes an occasional ag-based column called, "On More Round." Steve, Nathan's dad, farms in his spare time.
