“This has been coming for quite awhile,” cemetery board member Ralph Diffey said. “It was so irregular for the veterans walking in on Memorial Day. We think it is a nice improvement to the cemetery.”
Services are planned at several area cemeteries for Memorial Day on Monday.
The services are being conducted by the American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff, North Bend’s VFW Post 8223 and the Jeffrey Mines AmVets Post 20.
The firing squad salute group will meet at 6:30 a.m. at the Legion Hall in Morse Bluff. There will be salutes at Fleming Cemetery at 7 a.m. and at Cedar Hill Cemetery at approximately 7:20 a.m. They will be at Linwood Hill and Linwood Catholic Cemetery at approximately 8 a.m. and at Dawson Cemetery (west of Linwood) following.
All Legion, VFW and AmVets members are invited to meet at Morse Bluff Legion Hall at 9 a.m. for coffee and kolaches. The memorial service at Killian Cemetery will be at 10 a.m. and at Woodland Cemetery at 11 a.m.
Buglers for the day are Ethan Emanuel and Bernadine Wochnick
There will be a Mass at 8 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cedar Hill, and a 10 a.m. at Woodland Cemetery led by St. Charles Catholic Church.
After the ceremonies, the VFW Auxiliary will sponsor a pot luck at the VFW Hall in North Bend for veterans, their families and other participants.
