A change in Nebraska law has the North Bend City Council looking at allowing golf carts to be driven legally on city streets.

Previous state law limited the use of golf carts to streets adjacent to a golf course, but that restriction was lifted last year. In January 2015 the city council passed an ordinance allowing ATVs and UTVs on city streets. Golf carts were not included because of the state restrictions in place at the time.

An ordinance allowing golf carts on city streets is being drawn up. Council members at the Aug. 2 meeting said they favored the golf cart regulations mirroring the ATV rules passed last year.

Those regulations include registering the vehicle with the city, possessing a legal drivers’ license and being 19 years old. The carts may not be driven on highways 79 or 30 except to cross at a 90 degree angle.
