There is a new face greeting people at the Morse Bluff Post Office. Joan Stegner retired as of Dec. 31, and Cindy Madsen has taken her place.

Well no, not really. Stegner was postmaster at Morse Bluff for 20 years. Madsen is a Postal Support Employee filling the position Stegner left. Madsen is under the postmaster at the North Bend Post Office and will be going there at times to help out.

Madsen is a native of the Linwood area, graduating from Prague High School. She went to Omaha for college and ended up staying for 20 years before returning to her family home to help her parents. After living in the Linwood area for 10 years, the family relocated to North Bend five months ago.

Madsen has two children, eighth grader Mackenzie and sixth grader Charles, in North Bend schools. They optioned into NBC six years ago. Her husband Mark works at Lozier in Omaha. Another daughter, Samantha, is out of school and currently living at home and working.

In response to public input, the Morse Bluff Post Office is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays and 9:30 to 11:30 on Saturday.

Stegner worked for the postal service since 1983. She is enjoying her retirement, seeing more of the kids and grandkids, attending their sporting events and traveling with her husband, Mel.
