Cassidy Walla set the NBC pole vault record at 10-0 late in her freshman season. In the first outdoor meet of her sophomore season, she did it again.

Walla cleared 8-0 on her first attempt, guaranteeing her the gold medal at last Tuesday’s Running Tiger/Cadet invite. From there she moved the bar to 10-3, which she also cleared on her first attempt.

Walla said she’s really been making progress in practice, getting a better press and more bend in her pole.

“At practice I’ve been going over the bungee about that high,” she said, “so I wasn’t too surprised.”

She made three attempts at 10-6, but couldn’t get over it.

Coach Jeff Voss wasn’t surprised at the record height, but the timing caught him a little off guard.

“She really started looking good in practice at the end of last week,” Voss said. “We knew she would get there. We didn’t know she would get there now. She’s got more in her– it’s a just a matter of how much.”
