Form a team to walk to beat cancerby Brandi Arneal Relay for Life is coming to North Bend soon! On Sept. 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. teams of survivors, supporters, caretakers, loved ones, and many more will come together to support the American Cancer Society in their search for a Cure for Cancer. It is time to put your team together! You will create a team of family and friends who want to walk in support of cancer research. Your team can sign up at Relay.org/NorthBendNE. Each member’s name will be added to the team and a donation provided. You can donate as an entire team or as individual team members. All donations go to the American Cancer Society in support of cancer research.
You can donate online when you register or bring your donations to Platte Valley Bank. Make sure to let them know it is for North Bend Relay for Life. On Saturday, Sept. 27, our community will gather together at the city park tennis courts. Your team will assemble and begin walking. You can all walk together as a team or you can take turns and each person walks for a period of time then lets another team member take over. You can take breaks, socialize, visit the bake sale in the pavilion, or sit in silent remembrance of a loved one. This is your time to honor those you love who have been affected by cancer. There will be some events and activities during the walk. The walk begins at 4 p.m. starting with the Survivor’s Walk. The Caregiver’s Walk will commence at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m., raffle winners will be announced. The NBC dance and cheer teams will perform at 6:30 p.m. At 7:45 p.m., the Luminary Walk will close out the event. In between all these events, there will be a bake sale, cornhole games, food, and fun activities for those walking laps including “Meet a New Friend” lap and a “Hokey Pokey” lap. The bake sale is accepting donations and can be dropped off from 2-4 p.m. at the pavillion. Baked goods will be available for purchase from 4-7 p.m. The Luminary Walk will be a special event to close out the evening. Luminarias honor every life touched by cancer. When you attend the Relay event, you’ll see the Luminarias decorated with names and messages to the people they are dedicated to. After dark, Relay participants share an emotional moment when each Luminaria is lit in remembrance of a life touched by cancer. Together, we’ll take a moment of silence to remember our loved ones we have a luminary dedicated to. If you would like to purchase a Luminaria for $10 in remembrance of a loved one, please contact a North Bend Relay for Life Committee members including Rev. Connie Stone, Abby Stone, Brandi Arneal, Kathy Mensik, Elaine Vech, Audrey Chromy, Karen Dunn, Pat Fittje, Sharon Flamme or Mary Le Arneal. Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back. Relay for Life is more than a walk, it is a chance to come together to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against every cancer as we come together for every life! <<Back to the front page |
