Memorial services to honor vetsby Mary Le Arneal Local veterans have Memorial Day services planned for several area cemeteries for Monday, May 26. Services are being conducted by members of the American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff, North Bend’s VFW Post 8223 and the Jeffrey K. Mines AmVets Post 20. Veterans are invited to meet at 6:30 a.m. at the Legion Hall in Morse Bluff for coffee and rolls. Those participating in the cemetery salutes will divide into two groups with one group going to Fleming Cemetery for an 8 a.m. ceremony then going on to Cedar Hill Cemetery for a 9 a.m. program. The second group will take part in services at National and Catholic cemeteries near Linwood a 8 a.m. and at Dawson Cemetery at 9 a.m. A flyover of a KC-135R Stratotanker from Lincoln is planned to be over the cemetery at 11 a.m. North Bend Central student Daniel Mullally, who attended Boys State last summer, will speak at Fleming, Cedar Hill and Killian cemeteries. Buglers for the programs will be Ethan Emanuel, Brady Jedlicka, Alex Otte and Logan Ortmeier. There will be a Mass at 8 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cedar Hill. After all the ceremonies, there will be a pot luck at the VFW Hall in North Bend for veterans, their families and others participating in the ceremonies. <<Back to the front page |
