The former LeRoy’s Steakhouse has been for sale for more than nine months and recently sold. The steakhouse was built by Gerald and Sandy Martens and opened as the Frontier Steakhouse in 1975.

Rural Fire District buys LeRoy's

LeRoy’s Steakhouse closed July 2, 2022, and it has been for sale since. With no takers.

“We wanted to see it sell as a restaurant,” North Bend Rural Fire District president Pat Tawney said. “We hate to see it go away as much as anybody.”

The fire district has been looking for a place to expand for the last three years. The current fire station, built in 1971 at Seventh and Maple, is too small to meet needs and has safety concerns as well, Tawney said. The board has investigated other sites for a possible new station that offer the area and frontage the fire department needed, but nothing worked out.

“Without ground we couldn’t talk about expansion,” Tawney said. “When this came up, it all kind of fell into place.”

They felt they needed land to grow on with highway access.

“This land crossed all the boxes off,” Tawney said. “It was exactly what we were looking for.”

The fire district received a donation from the Larsen brothers estate from the sale of farm ground. It was with these funds that the fire district will purchase the LeRoy’s property.
