The Nebraska Department of Roads descended on North Bend last Tuesday, armed with maps, engineers and placards for an open house at the North Bend City Auditorium. In October 2014 NDoR unveiled its preferred alternative for the Highway 30 expressway from Schulyer to Fremont at an open house in North Bend. Last Tuesday, NDoR officials returned with more detailed plans and information. Only minor tweaks have been made in the route since the 2014 meeting, which leaves the existing Highway 30 about three miles west of North Bend and curves north to about a quarter mile north of County Road S, the first gravel road north of North Bend. “The highway is going to go where it’s going,” Justin Taylor said. “My main concern is drainage. I just want my voice heard. I’m doing what I can do.” Taylor has farm ground all along the route that will be affected, including more than 10 pivots.
