Season ends at districts

The North Bend Central softball season came to an end Wednesday, Oct. 9, with a pair of losses in the district tournament in Valley. The Tigers were the bottom seed in a loaded district which featured three rated teams, including No. 1 Bennington and No. 2 Yutan-Mead. NBC was the only team in the district without a winning record.

The Tigers faced Bennington first, falling 9-1. The orange and black didn't fare much better in the second round, where it lost to Arlington 10-2. The Tigers end the year with a 4-18 record.

Tigers come back to beat Madison

North Bend scored five unanswered runs after trailing 3-0 to earn its fourth win of the year with a 5-3 victory over Madison on Monday, Sep. 29. Meri Gross-Rhode, Dalena Mensik, Cassie Schutt and Sam Dolezal had a hit each, including an RBI triple by Mensik, to lead the Tiger offense. Mensik also picked up her second pictching victory of the season. This marked the second win for NBC over Madison in three days after beating the Dragons at the Wayne Invite on Saturday.

NBC splits at Lakeview


North Bend earned a split Sept. 20 at the Lakeview double dual. The Tigers first fell to Tekamah-Herman 11-1. In the second game, NBC trounced Class A Omaha South by a score of 10-1. The game was highlighted by 17 North Bend hits, including a fourth inning solo home run by Kelsi Hanson. Dalena Mensik was 3-for-4 from the plate, with two triples and three RBIs to her credit. Natalie Treat was also 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Carly Hines picked up her first pitching win of the season as the Tigers move to 2-9.

Ruzicka's offense can't lift Tigers past WPCC


The Tigers made a good run at their second win of the year, but came up just short in an 8-6 lost to West Point CC Thursday, Sept. 18. Freshman Taylor Ruzicka was the offensive star of the game. The center fielder was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and three RBIs. Once on the basepaths, she tied a school record with three stolen bases. Meri Gross-Rhode added two stolen bases and Dalena Mensik one to give the team six steals in the game, one short of the school record.

Late innings push Neumann past NBC

Wahoo Neumann scored three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to pull away from the North Bend softball team Monday, Sept. 15, and take a 9-1 win. Cassie Schutt, Dalena Mensik, Samantha Dolezal and Kate Timm had singles for NBC.
