Feb. 26 is a lucky day according to the traditional Vietnamese calendar. To take advantage of that luck, Tam Nguyen is opening up her nail salon, Nails-4-U, that day.

Nails-4-UTan Nguyen is all smiles as she waits for the opening of her new nail salon, Nails-4-U.

The salon is located at 611 East 6th Street in North Bend (the former Betty’s Bouquets and Gift shop).

The Nguyens moved to North Bend from Columbus a month ago after purchasing the building from Jerry Nordboe. They have completely remodeled the building to house their business as well as living quarters.

The Nguyens immigrated from Vietnam in 1992 and are now U.S. citizens. The lived in California for six years before moving to Nebraska, following their son and daughter-in-law to Omaha. They lived in Omaha and Columbus before moving to North Bend.

“First we were scared of snow,” Tam’s husband Le said, “but now we are getting used to it.”

While in California, Tam graduated from the Rodondo Beauty College as a nail technician. She has been in the business since that time.

At 69, Tam’s husband is retired. She is 59 and has a Nebraska manicurist license. Their son and daughter-in-law run a nail salon in Omaha and will be helping out. The daughter-in-law, Kim Tran, will be the second manicurist at the North Bend shop.

The shop will be opened daily except Sunday. They have all new equipment that includes two spa chairs and three nail stations. Appointments will be taken starting Feb. 26 by calling 402-216-2952. Walk-ins are also welcomed. They will offer manicures, pedicures and acrylic nails.

Tam also has a line of jewelry on display for sale. Until they are able to secure a credit card machine, the Nguyens will only accept cash or checks.

Another member of the family patrons will get to know is Kiki, their little dog, who welcomes everyone to the nail salon.
