Benders enjoy a night at the park

posted 6/13/09

North Benders enjoyed the third annual North Bend Night at Haymarket Park on a beautiful Saturday evening on June 13. 2009 NBC graduate Eric Kavan threw out the first pitch, while his classmate Danny Ahl sang the national anthem. The North Bend 10-and-under baseball team was the "Watchdogs" for the night, being introduced with the Saltdog starters and taking the field for the national anthem. Anthony Dodge served as the mini-manager for the night, bringing out the lineup card to the umpires before the game. North Benders also participated in between-inning promotions throughout the night, including Kavan and Ahl facing off in a human bowling ball race.

For it while it looked like the North Bend Night game might go into extra innings for the third straight year. The visiting Sioux Falls Canaries got back into the game with a grand slam, but the Lincoln Saltdogs pulled out the win with a dramatic eighth-inning home run for a final score of 7-6. The night ended with the kids getting a chance to run around the bases.
