NBC's season, Watts' career closes

Oct. 23- Coach Dan Watts closed out a 32-year cross country coaching career at the 2009 state meet. Freshman Madeline Lynch was the only NBC girl competing, and she finished 37th in a time of 17:24.1. Her place is the highest a NBC runner has placed in the girls' race since 2003. In the Class D boys race, Jesse Lacey ran one of his best races of the year to finish 28th. Eric Kloke completed the Tiger contingent finishing 44th.

Oct. 15- North Bend Central came out of the D-1 district meet with three individual state qualifiers. In the girls race, Madeline Lynch finished fifth to claim an automatic qualifying spot, which go to the top 15 finishers. Senior Kayla Van Norman was in contention for a state berth for a while, but finished 27th.

The Tiger boys will be sending two runners to state. Eric Kloke and Jesse Lacey finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the district race at Branched Oak Lake.

As teams, both the boys and girls had one of their better showings of the year, with both teams finishing sixth. Other runners competing for the boys were Clay Roubal and Morgan Wegner. The rest of the girls runners were Mia Orellana, Missy Brickel and Hannah Minarick.

Raiders, Cadets crowned EHC champs

Oct. 8- Led by individual gold medallist Jake Kment, Logan View ran its way to the boys title at the East Husker Conference meet. North Bend's Eric Kloke led for the first half of the race before being passed by Kment. Kloke finished nine seconds behind Kment to claim the silver medal. Jesse Lacey also medalled for NBC, placing fifth in the conference. As a team, NBC was fifth out of the six complete teams competing.

On the girls side, West Point-Beemer claimed the top spot and Oakland-Craig's Carrie King won the individual championship after finishing more than a minute in front of the second-place runner. Madeline Lynch was the top NBC runner, coming in third overall. Kayla Van Norman medalled in 13th place as North Bend came in fifth in the team race.

NBC teams compete at home

Sept. 24- The Running Tigers made their only appearance at home this season at the North Bend Invite. The boys were led by Eric Kloke, who placed fifth in Division II in a personal best time of 17:45. Jesse Lacey also medalled in eighth place. As a team, the NBC boys placed fourth in the five-team Division II. Logan View and Oakland-Craig went 1-2 in Div. II. Gretna won Division I, made up of larger schools. C. Ramsgard of Omaha Roncalli was the overall individual gold medallist.

On the girls side, Madeline Lynch placed sixth in her division with a personal best time of 17:03. Kayla Van Norman was the second NBC runner in 18th. The Tiger girls were firth in Div. II, while Aquinas took top honors. In Division I, Gretna was again tops, as the Dragons' E. Roll was the top individual runner.

Tigers open at Schuyler

Sept. 3- Both the NBC boys and girls cross country teams finished third at the Schuyler Invite to begin the season. The boys placed third out of six teams and were led by junior Eric Kloke, who came in third overall. Jess Lacey also medaled for the boys in 10th place. The girls were paced by freshman Madeline Lynch, who crossed the finish line fourth in the girls race.
