Members of the Woodland Cemetery Board got together March 8 to take out the fence on the west side of the cemetery in preparation of a new black wrought iron fence to be installed at the end of March.

It took about two hours with tractor loaders and board members Dan Winkelman, Ralph Diffey, Maynard Flamme, Paul Emanuel, Steve Arneal, Doug Rasmussen, Phil Roubal plus Jim Robinson providing the man power.

The board is looking into a special entryway for the cemetery, but have not decided on a design yet. Diffey, secretary-treasurer of the cemetery board, said the fence needed to be updated. The north side of the front was replaced after a car accident took out the old fence in 1978. Diffey said the original fence probably dates back to the late 1880s, when the cemetery was built. The north and south fences have already been replaced with a black coated chain link fence.

The cemetery is located less than a mile northeast of North Bend.
