On the court they may be opponents, but off the court, especially in the game she is in now, everyone is rooting for her.

Nicole Boyle, 15, is a member of the Scribner-Snyder volleyball team. In June she was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a type of cancer in which the bone marrow doesn’t make enough blood cells and abnormal cells exist in the blood or bone marrow.

NicoleNicole Boyle is a member of the Scribner-Snyder volleyball team and fighting cancer.

On Oct. 21 the North Bend Central High School volleyball team will be doing a Cancer Awareness night at the game against Howells-Dodge. Team Nicole T-shirts will be sold prior to the game.

Many other teams in East Husker Conference have also had T-shirts made and donated money to the Boyle family. Lyons-Decatur gave them a golden egg with the money raised.

NBC volleyball coach Amy Sterup has contacted Howells-Dodge coach Neil VanLengen, and the Howells-Dodge team will be participating also.

An orange NBC Team Nicole shirt will be sold at the Oct. 21 game for $12, with all proceeds going to Boyle. The T-shirts will be pre-ordered and will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.

“We are hoping to have them here by our game against Scribner-Snyder so the crowd can support Nicole at (her high school) and at the Cancer Awarness Night against Howells-Dodge,” Sterup said.

Nicole is the daughter of Kerry and Beth Boyle of Scribner and the niece of Jim and Mary Spath of North Bend.

She was diagnosed in early June and spent June and July at Children’s Hospital. She had chemotherapy prior to a bone marrow transplant on Aug. 7 at University of Nebraska Medical Center. Her oldest brother, Craig, was the donor. Nicole was discharged from UNMC Sept. 18 and is at home until her immune system gets established and she can return to school. Her goal is to be back in school by the end of November or early December.

The Scribner-Snyder volleyball team is having a ‘Nicole night’ at their game Oct. 7 against NBC.

A fund to to help with medical and other expenses has been set up for Nicole at Scribner Bank, P.O. Box K, Scribner, NE 68057.
