The North Bend Public Schools Board of Education had an additional January meeting to cover all the material necessary for the month.

Items covered included a letter of inquiry from the Scribner-Snyder school board expressing interest in co-oping their basketball programs with NBC. The letter was sent to two other school districts also.

A conversational meeting has been held with representatives of both school districts attending. NBC board members expressed the stipulation that all games and practices would be held at NBC.

The board approved the purchase of land from Henry and Lillian Oestmann, just east of the elementary school. The elementary school has no room to expand in three directions with the only open land to the east. Rick Hobza had spoken to
the Oestmanns requesting they give the school the option to buy their land whenever they were ready to sell it. The Oestmann approached the board in late fall 2013 ready to sell. The board approved the purchase of the land, which includes a house, for $112,500.

Superintendent Dan Endorf said there are no plans at this time for the house and land, and the board will develop a long term plan for its use in the next year.

The board approved the reinstating the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club and the Art Club in the extracurricular activities offerings.

“With the school increasing in size we need to offer such things as these activities in our school,” Endorf said.

Math teacher Aubrey Miller will be the sponsor for the FBLA. She plans to attend the FBLA state convention and will develop a program for NBC for the 2014-2015 school year. Dan Wright will be the sponsor of the Art Club.

In other business the board:
• settled teacher negotiations giving them a four percent raise.
• approved a proposal with Nebraska Furniture Mart for audio visual items needed with the new construction.
• approved hire of Jamie Brodd for nighttime custodian.

The next meeting will be February 10 at 7 p.m
