Area residents will have two opportunities to honor and recognize local veterans and those serving in the military on Veterans Day.

North Bend Central will hold its annual Veterans Day program at 10:50 a.m. in the NBC gym. The 20-minute program will include music by students and a program on flag etiquette presented by Morse Bluff American Legion Post 340. The program is planned by social studies teacher Ken Streff.

The town Veterans Day parade will once again be put on by North Bend Elementary kindergartners and first graders. They will begin the parade at the school at 1:45 p.m. and march to the North Bend-Morse Bluff Veterans’ Memorial Park on Main Street.

Flags, balloons and decorated floats will be part of the parade as well as a special participant, Uncle Sam (not a student at NBE).

The students and teachers will put on a short program at the Veterans’ Park, beginning at approximately 2 p.m. Taps will be played before the students return to school.

Parents are invited to march along with the students and the public is invited to view the parade on route and attend the program.

Kindergarten teacher Shirley Johnson is the organizer of the event.

In case of rain or snow, the program will be held at the elementary school with the public invited.
