Bottom Road Bar rammed

Cory P. Allely of Malmo was arrested early Monday morning after alledgedly ramming his pickup truck through the entrance of the Bottom Road Bar in Morse Bluff. Saunders County Sheriff Kevin Stuckenholtz said Allely, 20, was arrested for driving while intoxicated, willful reckless driving and criminal mischief.

Witnesses say Allely appeared to be intoxicated when he entered the bar shortly after 12:30 a.m. Monday. When he tried to order a drink and was refused service, witnesses say he left the bar, backed up his truck to the street, a distance of about 35 yards, stepped on the gas and rammed the entrance of the bar. He then backed up and drove about three blocks east before entering the ditch and ending up in a bean field.

Bar owner Matt Shaw said no one inside the bar was hurt. It's not usually for bar patrons to congregate just inside the bar entrance where the truck struck. Shaw said it was a good thing the incident happened so late on a Sunday when not many people were around. He also said advance warning was giving of the impending collision.

“Someone yelled he was coming through and luckily everyone got out of the way,” Shaw said.

The Bottom Road was closed Monday for repairs, the first full day the bar has been closed since opening in 1996, Shaw said.

"We stayed open through Christmases, Thanksgivings and even a tornado," Shaw said, "but this is what finally closed us."

The Bottom Road was back open on Tuesday.
