Setbacks, storage sheds discussed by Council

Several neighbors of Richard Dohrman attended the Oct. 6 North Bend City Council meeting to express their concerns over a large portable storage unit placed on his property at 241 West 12th St.

Before any of the neighbors spoke, Dohrman approached the Council and told them it was a dead issue. Even though he had planned to put siding and a roof on the unit to look like any other storage shed in the neighborhood, he said the city’s setbacks wouldn’t allow any type of structure on his property.

Mayor Jeff Kluthe told Dohrman and gathered citizens that he wished the neighbors could have approached each other and discussed the issue instead of taking the matter straight to the City Council.
In other Council business:

• The city will take bids on repainting and repairs needed at the city pool.
• Mickey Jacobs of M.E. Collins Construction will be invited to a meeting to discuss drainage problems created by the resurfaced Main Street in North Bend.
• Emily Kirschenmann reported that the new library drive has received preliminary approval on a $100,000 grant.
• Jan Vopalensky was approved as a part-time assistant librarian.
• Kluthe expressed his desire to move the setbacks for a fence from 65 feet from the center of the street to 40 feet. This would essentially allow a fence to be built right on the property line.
