Wochnick resigns from Councilby Nathan Arneal
At the end of the North Bend City Council's May 19 meeting, councilman Al Wochnick presented Mayor Karan Legler his letter of resignation. In his letter, Wochnick said he could not serve under a mayor that does not serve the community which elected her. He also cited a "double standard applied for friends and family members of city employees." At the May 5 Council meeting, Legler had removed Wochnick from the head of the city's parks and pool department over a dispute in hiring staff for the city pool. Councilmember Lisa Voss was assigned to take his spot. Wochnick did not attend the May 5 meeting. The resignation creates a vacancy on the Council that will have to be filled by mayoral appointment. Kevin Ferguson, who was appointed to the council two years ago, is now the longest tenured councilman. He is also the only current councilmember elected to the office, having been reelected in November. See related article: Democracy Inaction- council struggles to fill seats <<Back to the front page |
