At the monthly meeting of the North Bend Central Public Schools Board of Education Bob Feurer made a presentation, asking for $10,000 from the board to complete cement trails around the arboretum. Feurer noted that the North Bend arboretum is the only statewide accredited arboretum on school grounds.

“It is a unique facility,” Superintendent James Havelka said. “ It is a $1.5 million arboretum on school property.”

After much discussion, the board voted to give $5,000 to the project, not as a donation, but looking at it as participating in the project as a school improvement. The board also stated that it would be open to further donations as the project progressed.

“We should look at it as a donation to benefit the education system itself,” board member Mike Borer said.

The board approved open enrollment resolution with all classes open except Level II SPED.

There was a valuation comparation examined with a rise in total evaluation of 8.61 percent. The biggest change was in the reevaluation or recategorizaton of land uses.

In other business, the board:

• Spent time categorizing values for a core value statement.
• Approved hiring of Elizabeth Klinzing as a SPED para
• Heard that there will be an H1N1 immunization clinic in North Bend schools in January.
The next meeting will be Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.
