Class of ‘63 turns 63, born in ‘45, celebrating 45-year class reunion. Confused? So was Carolyn (Miller) Jackson when she began to realize the odd symmetry of numbers.

In review, most of the members of the North Bend High School class of 1963 were born in 1945. Therefore, most of the graduates are turning 63 this year and will be gathering during Old Settlers to celebrate their 45-year class reunion.

The class of ‘63 had 59 graduates, the largest in school history at that time. All but eight seniors were listed as helping create the yearbook, or annual, and in the dedication wrote, “We, the Senior Class of 1963, dedicate our annual to memories -

“Not long ago...our crazy initiation...stacks of homework...jammed lunch lines...harried semester tests...that first corsage at Junior Prom...thrilling football games on chilly fall nights...inspiring pep rallies...frenzied work at annual deadlines...the epitome - commencement. These were our high school days.”

Though this quote has rounded the bend of 45 years, it is still something North Bend graduates from the classes of 1948 to 2008 can relate to as their reunions draw near.

“Somebody different shows up every year,” noted class of ‘63 graduate Duane Krepel on the topic of reunions.

When asked to reflect on his NBHS experience Krepel paused to say he was “too old to remember high school” and that “a lot of memories happened in between (high school and now),” though he did recall a class trip when asked. His thoughts: “It was a long train ride to Denver.”

Classmate, Jackson, remembered the senior trip to Colorado a bit differently as “the highlight of our high school years.” Adding, “As I remember we had a blast!”

The class of ‘63 will be recalling past memories as well as catching up on new ones Saturday, June 18 at 6 p.m. at the North Bend Golf Course.
Additional reunions being held (all are on Saturday, June 28, unless otherwise noted):

The class of ‘53 will celebrate their 55th reunion Saturday at the VFW Hall. After 6:30 p.m. all past graduates of North Bend and their friends are invited to join. There will be a cash bar and
refreshments.

The Rawhide will be hosting the class of ‘58 for a 6 p.m. social hour followed by a meal at 7 p.m. with an open house to follow.

1968’s graduates will be begin their reunion at 4 p.m. at the home of Drew von Rein located at 1874 Hwy 79, other alumni are welcome to attend after 7 p.m.

North Bend Golf Course will also be the locale for the class of 1978’s reunion starting at 7 p.m.

1983’s graduates are holding a 3 p.m. reunion potluck at Shaw’s river property one mile west of Morse Bluff. Guests are asked to bring their own beverages.

Two events are planned for the class of ‘88. The first, a meal catered at the NB Golf Course is Friday evening, and is for adults only. The second is a family potluck to be held Saturday at the home of Francis and Carol Emanuel, 1822 Co. Road 6.

The class of 1993 will meet Saturday at 5 p.m. at Little Ricky's.

NBC’s 1998 graduates also have two events planned, both for Saturday. The first will be held for graduates and their families at Tower School from 1 to 4 p.m. Later, at 6:30 p.m., just the adults will be meeting at Little Ricky’s.

The youngest reunion group, the class of 2003, will be celebrating their five-year reunion beginning at 3 p.m. at Little Ricky’s.

While not a traditional reunion year, the class of 1941 plans to meet at 5:30 p.m. at the City Park for the Chamber dinner and band concert followed by social hour at the home of Maxine Arneal.

The class of 1973 had no specific reunion plans as of press time.
